Some of the AFL biggest names have thrown their Brownlow tip behind Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett, with equally-favourite Joel Selwood also confident his All Australian deputy will add a second Brownlow Medal to his long list of team and individual honours.

“I think Dane Swan (Collingwood) and Gary Ablett might tie,” Selwood proclaimed to Fox Footy’s Sarah Jones.

Expected to poll strong throughout the Medal count alongside fellow Magpie Swan, Scott Pendlebury said he wouldn’t be surprised if Ablett repeated his 2009 Brownlow success.

“I think he’s had another great year, and no one would argue if he won again tonight,” Pendlebury said.

Incoming Melbourne senior coach Paul Roos, who spent much of the year analysing the code’s best players as a panellist on Fox Footy’s On the Couch Monday night program, said Ablett’s consistency would likely see the champion midfielder rewarded in front of his peers at Crown’s Palladium tonight.

“He’s had a consistent year, and while people say he might of fell away, he still averaged around 26 disposals,” Roos said.

“So I think Gary will probably take it out.”

Even AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou couldn’t go past the Gold Coaster.

“There can always be a smokey (outside chance), but Gary has had a great year and is my tip for the Brownlow.”

With his mother Non at his side, NAB AFL Rising Star Jaeger O’Meara was confident his team mate could create Brownlow history.

“I definitely hope so, he is in good contention so it would be a good night if he wins,” he said.

“Gary is one of the game’s greats so if he could get up it would be great for us.”
