The Gold Coast SUNS have selected Elijah Hollands with pick 7 in the 2020 NAB AFL Draft.

Hailing from Victoria, Hollands is a dangerous forward who has the skills to become a powerful and explosive midfielder.

An ACL injury in February ruled the 18-year-old out of playing football in 2020, but Hollands is progressing with his rehab and is set to return to the field in 2021.

Speaking to SUNS Media, Hollands said he was thrilled to be joining the Gold Coast.

“It’s pure elation,” he said.

“I’ve wanted this for such a long time and to get the opportunity to play AFL footy, I’m over the moon.

“Gold Coast has an unbelievable young core group of players and to be able to mix in with those guys and get stuck into work with them over summer, I’m truly thrilled and I can’t wait.”

Hollands can dominate at stoppages and is a booming long kick who was considered by some as the best midfield prospect available in the 2020 draft pool.

In 2019 he won the Cameron Ling medal as the best Level 1 NAB AFL Academy player in the country.

He joins the SUNS after the club also added a quartet of Academy prospects on Wednesday morning; Alex Davies, Joel Jeffery, Rhys Nicholls and Aiden Fyfe.

Hollands will join his teammates on the Gold Coast on Friday.
