In the Gold Coast SUNS’ first-ever AFL match back in 2011, it was Paul Fowles who tossed the coin.

Known affectionately as “Fowlesy”, Paul was an original sponsor of the SUNS and his service to the game of AFL in Queensland spans nearly two decades.

Paul served for 14 years as President and Sponsor of the Burleigh Bombers football club and also supported AFL Darling Downs and AFL Mackay through his business Allied.

Sadly Paul passed away suddenly over Easter and the SUNS wanted to recognise his contribution to the club and the game by inviting his sons Bryce and Brendan to toss the coin in his honour.

It’s been 10 years since Fowlesy’s inaugural coin toss, and it was fitting that Bryce and Brendan were able to toss the coin for a SUNS match against Carlton, the same club which was playing when their dad did the honours a decade earlier.

Paul’s tireless work for football in Queensland leaves a legacy that his family will be proud of.
