The Gold Coast SUNS are thrilled to confirm the appointment of Cameron Joyce as the club’s new AFLW Head Coach.

Joyce joins the club with an esteemed football pedigree to his name, boasting 23 years of experience across multiple disciplines in the AFL industry.

Most recently, Joyce has worked as a talent player pathway coach with AFL Tasmania, coaching and managing the Tasmania Devils in the NAB League.

In 2021 he coached the Devils Girls to their first ever finals series and was also named an assistant coach for the Allies in the NAB AFLW U19 National Championships.

Joyce said he was excited and motivated by the opportunity to tackle his new role as Gold Coast SUNS AFLW Head Coach.

“I’m really excited to be joining the club and working with such a talented group of players at the SUNS,” Joyce said.

“I see a real opportunity for growth and development amongst the players and to build on the foundations that have already been established over the last two seasons.

“I’ve always had a strong passion for coaching and I feel my experiences over the last 23 years will hold me in good stead for the role going forward.”

Prior to his role with AFL Tasmania, Joyce has worked at North Melbourne, West Coast and Richmond in various roles including general manager of football, list manager and development coach.

GC SUNS Chief Executive, Mark Evans, said Joyce’s vast experience and professionalism across all levels of football were extremely desirable throughout the selection process.

“Cameron was a standout candidate to be our new AFLW Head Coach and we’re thrilled to have him as part of the Gold Coast SUNS family,” Evans said.

“He is highly respected throughout the industry, has a strong passion for developing football talent and has proven his ability as a coach, particularly in female football in recent years.

“He brings a wealth of experience that we feel will add to the professionalism of our entire AFLW program heading into the 2022 NAB AFLW Premiership Season.”

Joyce will begin his new role immediately with a focus on the 2021 AFLW Sign & Trade Period which runs until June 25.
