Back-to-back wins on the road can be put down to the SUNS playing a trademark brand of football, according to defender Sean Lemmens.

After defeating Richmond last week, Lemmens helped the SUNS hold on for a tense one-point win over GWS on Sunday afternoon in what looks to be a reinvigorated Gold Coast outfit.

The 26-year-old said the club had put a focus on returning to the high-pressure game-style it wanted to be known for over the last fortnight.

“I think when we stick to our trademark and our club values you can see it on gameday,” Lemmens said.

“It’s good to get some reward.

“It was a super effort from the boys, a lot of lads stood up so it was very pleasing.”

The backline withstood a heavy siege from GWS in the dying minutes of the match in Ballarat, with Lemmens saying the trust amongst the defenders was a key reason for the resoluteness under pressure.

Each player has their own “trademark” they bring to the table which contributes to the overall team defence.

“I think (my trademark is) just my physicality,” Lemmens said.

“I play alongside lads like Collo (Sam Collins), Charlie Ballard and Wil Powell – lads that do it just as good.

“I try to model my game off them.

“Even if you look at Jarrod Harbrow, I’ve watched him for many years and played alongside him so when you’ve got mentors and role models like that you tend to play like those guys I think.”

The SUNS’ next assignment is to take on the Western Bulldogs at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Lemmens thanked the club’s Melbourne-based fans for their support over the past fortnight and said he was eager to return home and continue the run of good form against the Dogs.

“I’m looking forward to getting back home to the family and our Gold Coast-based fans,” Lemmens said.

“We know what it takes and we know our brand of footy.

“We’ve just got to keep producing that and hopefully the wins will come.”

Tickets for Saturday’s clash against the Bulldogs are on sale now.
