After announcing himself as one of the competition’s most exciting key forwards in 2017, Peter Wright was hampered by a persistent calf issue which slowed his start to the 2018 season. He played his first match of the season in the NEAFL in early May before earning a call up to the seniors for Round 14. He played just seven games and kicked five goals before his season ended prematurely, sustaining a high-level medial ligament injury to his knee in Round 20 when landing awkwardly after flying for a mark.
After undergoing rehab in the off-season, Wright is looking fit and strong again ahead of the 2019 season. He’ll face some competition for a spot in the forward line, with the club recruiting goalkicker Josh Corbett in the off-season, while Sam Day and Brayden Crossley will also press their claims. However, Wright’s sheer talent and contested-marking ability should see him play plenty of games this season if he can remain on the park.
