Draft History: 2013 NAB AFL Draft 2nd round selection (Gold Coast) No. 27 overall.
Sean Lemmens has looked custom-built for Stuart Dew’s game plan, but had a 2018 season to forget after multiple injuries limited his output for the year. He first went down with a hamstring injury during the JLT Community Series last season before fracturing his hand in a tackle attempt after returning through the NEAFL. His rocky start to the season meant he didn’t play an AFL game until Round 13, but he then went on to play all but one match to finish the season.
Stuart Dew sees Lemmens as a pressure forward where his strong tackling and ferocious attack on the football allow him to succeed. In the past he has played behind the ball and in the midfield but looked at home in the forward line in 2018. Off the field, Lemmens is well-liked within the club and shows leadership qualities, inviting young recruit Izak Rankine to live with him when he first moved to the Gold Coast. He signed a three-year contract extension which will see him stay at the SUNS until 2021.
