The Gold Coast SUNS battled hard but could not overcome a determined Port Adelaide outfit in Adelaide on Sunday.

A full team effort was required in a game that was dictated by winning contested ball, with the SUNS going down by 2 points at the final siren.

David Swallow was a veteran across the four quarters, remaining dependable despite the intense pressure throughout the match.

He finished with 25 touches, seven intercepts and five score assists.

Ben Ainsworth continued to be a running machine accumulating one goal, 22 disposals, seven marks, six tackles and three goal assists.

Joining him up forward was Izak Rankine who continued his scintillating form adding three goals to the SUNS scoreline and contributing across the ground.

Oleg Markov stood up in his latest appearance, leading the match for metres gained (690) as well as 22 disposals and eight intercepts for the game.

Around the stoppages Jarrod Witts, Touk Miller, Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson battled hard, with Port Adelaide notching one more clearance than the away side.

Miller led the possession count for the SUNS with 30 touches and 10 tackles. Meanwhile Rowell surpassed 100 tackles for the season - more than any player in the league.

Witts also impressed with 41 hitouts and eight clearances, while Anderson ranked third for metres gained in the match (513) and created attacking opportunities for his fellow teammates in his 50th career game.

Brandon Ellis contributed equally in attack and with his intense pressure, finishing with two goals, seven inside 50s, three clearances and six intercepts.
