The StreetSmarts SUNS Academy has finished off its Coates Talent League stint in style with two wins in Sunday’s double header against the Northern Knights.

Three goals from Alannah Welsh and a three-goal-to-one second quarter from the Girls laid the foundations for the side’s first win of 2025, overcoming an early deficit to record a strong 7.7 (49) to 2.2 (14) win.

Welsh led the way for the SUNS as one of four goal kickers alongside Tara Nieass (two), Jessica McLean and Scarlett Feathersone (one apiece) with Sienna Burnham, Mikayla Nurse, Lilly-Ann Ryder and Sunny Lappin all named in the best for the Academy.

In the second match, the Boys polished off an unbeaten Coates Talent League campaign, also overturning a deficit to storm home for a 23-point win.

Trailing by seven points at the final change, five unanswered goals ensured the Boys rounded out a strong month for the side with a a 8.9 (57) to 4.10 (34) victory.

Cooper Collins (four goals) and Leroy Kaesler (three goals) led the way on the scoreboard as Kaesler joined Koby Coulson, Jonah Harris, Grady Turner, Lachlan Cramp and Isaac Mayne in the Academy’s best.

Attention now turns to the 2025 Under 18 National Championships for several hopeful members off both sides. The Allies kick of its Under 18 Boys Championships against South Australia on Sunday, June 1 while Queensland’s Under 18 Girls Championships begins on Sunday, June 22.
