With a new Head Coach at the helm and a fresh crew of StreetSmarts SUNS Academy graduates on board, the Gold Coast is gearing up for a FEARLESS AFLW season.

Nine weeks out from Round 1 of the 2025 NAB AFLW season, experienced SUNS midfielder senior Lucy Single is looking forward to embracing a new era of the SUNS.

“I think as a team we're really making good moves,” Single told media at the Austworld Centre.

“Even though we had a bit of a rough season last year, we're still feeling really confident in our abilities.

“We know we've put in the work and we're only getting better from there."

In just four weeks of pre-season, new head coach Rhyce Shaw, has already made a lasting impression on the group.

“His different coaching style is something we've responded really well to,” Single said.

“We all really respect Shawry, so (his system) is something we all want to work hard towards to impress him and also do right with the club.

“I've had some really good conversations with him. He's honest, he's kind, and he just really knows his stuff, which is something we really needed at the club.

“Shawry’s experience through different programs, his real life experience as a footy player, and the knowledge he brings to our club (is something) we're really fortunate to have.”

Since debuting in 2021, the key midfielder has grown into an influential force for the Gold Coast and is aiming for her biggest season yet.

“I've got a few years behind me now, so this is my time to believe in myself and also have that strong belief in the club,” Single emphasised.

“I think my personal results have come from the hard work of the team.

“They're pushing so hard, so it only pushes me to try and take the next level with them.

The SUNS AFLW season kicks off Thursday, August 14 in Perth against the West Coast Eagles. SUNS fans can cheer on the girls at People First Stadium in Round 2 when they take on the Sydney Swans.
