Gold Coast has finished its AFLW pre-season preparations, going down to Geelong at People First Stadium on Saturday night.
The Cats proved too strong in the final match of Saturday's triple header, running out 10.7 (67) to 1.3 (9) victors.
Several SUNS pitched their cases to feature in Rhyce Shaw’s Round 1 side for the first time, including Lily Mithen and Havana Harris who both returned after missing last week’s match simulation. Mithen was seen on-ball alongside Charlie Rowbottom, Lucy Single and new recruit Tayla Gregory, while Harris made an impact inside forward 50, continuing to build a partnership alongside Jamie Stanton, Darcie Davies and Annabel Kievit.
Nyalli Milne, Mia Salisbury and Ellie Veerhuis also got their first official runs in SUNS colours with the former kicking the SUNS’ only goal in the second term.
The SUNS were without a host of players with several targeting a return early in the AFLW season.
Next up, the SUNS head to Perth to take on the Eagles in Round 1 on Thursday, August 14.
