Experienced stars  Jared Brennan and Tom Murphy will be closely monitored by the club’s medical staff in the lead-up to their key match against the Western Bulldogs but both appear to be in high spirits after receiving heavy knocks during last weeks match according to High Performance Manager Stephen Schwerdt.

Both Gold Coasters sent an injury scare through the GC SUNS camp after being stretched off the ground and requiring medical attention from the club’s medical team.

Brennan had started off like a house on fire, and was on track towards finishing the contest among the SUNS’ leading possession-getters before an astray elbow from Colin Slyvia caught Brennan off guard, forcing the former NT star to finish his afternoon on 19 disposals for the afternoon.

Defender, Tom Murphy looked to be in a world of trouble after a heavy knock from the Dee’s Jack Viney saw the former Hawk stabilised in a neck brace before being stretched off the ground.

However, after being assessed over the past 24 hours, Schwerdt said the club had received positive news from club doctor Barry Rigby who had assessed both players.

“The club doctor has confirmed that they’ve passed their tests so far and have pulled up pretty well,” said Schwerdt.

“We just need to go through the normal assessment, as you do with concussions through the week, and that will determine whether they’ll line up against the Western Bulldogs later this week.”
