Gold Coast SUNS young gun Jaeger O’Meara has been named Best Young Player at the AFL Coaches Association awards in Melbourne on Tuesday night.

This award is based on the players’ performance in his first two seasons of AFL football and the coaches’ nominations saw O’Meara narrowly edge out Port Adelaide’s Ollie Wines and the Western Bulldogs’ Jack Macrae.

In his first two seasons of AFL, the 2013 AFL Rising Star has played all 44 games, kicking 22 goals and averaging an impressive 21.5 disposals per game.

O’Meara is currently in Europe where he will undergo surgery to repair the patella tendons in both knees.
