For the fifth consecutive season the Gold Coast SUNS have surpassed 5,000 hours of meaningful community connection.

The milestone takes the total number of community hours to more than 25,000 since the club’s introduction into the AFL in 2011.

It’s a significant milestone for the emerging AFL market, smashing the annual industry average benchmark of approximately 3,500 hours per club.

The figure further demonstrates the GC SUNS’ are committed to being a club the city can be proud of.

All community activities at the club are performed through the GC SUNS Horizon’s program. The Horizons program focuses on three areas of social responsibility challenging the city – youth homelessness, respect & responsibility (domestic violence) and the north Gold Coast region.

To officially mark the milestone, GC SUNS CEO Andrew Travis met with key members from the club’s nominated charities involved in the north growth corridor, presenting them with a combined cheque of $7,500.

These funds, generated through the White Christmas Stocking Fund, were successfully raised through the club’s Horizon’s program in partnership with Rotary 9640 – Gold Coast and the City of Gold Coast.

Mr. Travis was delighted to announce the milestone for the Gold Coast.

“The milestone is a great achievement and I am extremely proud of our players and staff who have all played a role in achieving 5,000 hours of meaningful community connection through more than 1,600 appearances during the year,” Mr. Travis said.

“To achieve 5,000 hours for a fifth consecutive year, and marking more than 25,000 hours since our inception demonstrates the commitment the club has to the people of the Gold Coast.

“It’s a milestone we are all proud of, especially as community engagement has and will continue to be one of key focus areas for the Gold Coast SUNS.

“We are looking forward to continuing to enhance our connection with the Gold Coast community in the future,” Mr Travis added.
