Gold Coast SUNS fans already know the sheer power Trent McKenzie holds in his left boot, but now our American friends are starting to catch on.

McKenzie has been gaining attention from acclaimed newspaper The Washington Post and popular websites Sporting News and SB Nation for his 80-metre kick in the second NAB Challenge game in Perth.

After scrolling through the record books, The Washington Post found only seven punters in NFL history have eclipsed McKenzie’s distance, which registers 87.5 yards in the imperial system. That’s right, only seven.

Even more impressive? This wasn’t the 23-year-old’s furthest kick of the game at Joondalup. The West Perth Football Club took it upon themselves to whip out the surveyors wheel to see just how far the second kick was - 88.4 metres to be exact.

That’s 96.68 yards. We wonder where that would put McKenzie in the NFL record books?

They’ve called it ludicrous, they’ve called it a fluke, but AFL fans throughout the nation know this is pretty standard from the man they call ‘The Cannon.’
