We’re just two days out from the season opener and it’s all systems go at Metricon Stadium. The white paint is fresh on the 50-metre line and Rocket and the boys are eagerly awaiting that first bounce at 3.35pm on Easter Saturday.

In anticipation for our first home game of the season goldcoastfc.com.au looks at what fans can expect from match day at Metricon Stadium this year.

In-Game Stats via the Video Board

When Aaron Hall ticks over 24 disposals for the eight consecutive time, you’ll know about it. When the SUNS have had the last five inside 50s, you’ll know about it. And when Steven May is dominating his opponent, that’s right, you’ll know about it. The video board at the northern end of Metricon Stadium has been revamped over the summer and will now bring you live stats during play.

Here are just a few of the stats you’ll see

Team Comparison: head to head, how are Your SUNS stacking up against their rivals? Kicks, marks and disposal efficiency are just some of the key indicators you’ll be kept up to date with throughout the game.
Leading Players: See where Gaz, Lynchy and Kolo rank on the field with disposals, handballs, inside 50s and hitouts in comparison to opposition players.
Streak: You’ll be able to tell which team has had the last five marks, goals, inside 50s and hitouts to help you compare how the play is flowing.

Umpiring Decisions

If you’re the type of person who is often confused by the finer points of the game, fear not. In addition to the live stats the video board will also display umpire decisions coming directly from an AFL umpire sititng in the production room. This way, you’ll know exactly why the whistle was blown- even if you don’t exactly agree with the decision.

Countdown Shot Clock

Earlier this month the AFL announced the shot clock would be introduced at various venues around the country and Metricon Stadium is proud to bring you this innovation from the start of the season. A 30-second countdown will commence on the video board when a player marks the ball, giving you the ability to know exactly how long they have to line-up the perfect shot at goal.

Metricon Stadium is the first fully connected smart stadium in Queensland, bringing both high density Wi-Fi and a dedicated stadium App to fans for the 2016 season.
