The work-rate and effort of two young SUNS midfielders has been recognised in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award for round 18.

Alex Sexton
scored a perfect 10 for his performance against Fremantle, which saw him play out of the centre square for the first time in his AFL career.

The 23-year-old displayed class and composure, registering a career-high 26 disposals, eight tackles, seven clearances and a goal. Sexton also recorded a club record 14 inside 50s.

Fellow midfielder Touk Miller added another seven points to his 2016 season tally after another gutsy performance.

The Victorian had a team-high 28 disposals, seven tackles and seven clearances.

Miller continues to demonstrate his growth and tenacity, performing his increased midfield role with aplomb in recent weeks in the absence of some of the club’s more experienced midfielders.

Following each game of the 2016 season, coaches from both teams vote on who they believed to be most instrumental to the game. Each coach votes for five players, allocating a score form 1-5. The maximum a player can register for a single game is 10 votes.
