In emerging superstars Tom Lynch and Steven May, the Gold Coast SUNS have their bookends locked in place for the next decade.

Both were simply outstanding in Gold Coast’s eight-point loss to GWS on Saturday night.

May was arguably the best player on the ground and a colossus in defense, tallying 27 disposals, 14 marks (seven intercept) and five rebound 50s. Seemingly every time the Giants pushed inside 50, the Northern Territorian was there to repel them with Rory Thompson providing solid support.

Meanwhile at the other end of the ground, Lynch brought himself to equal leader in the Coleman Medal race with another four goals to take him to 61 for the year.

One player that knows Lynch better than most is midfielder Mitch Hallahan, who played junior footy with the SUNS vice-captain at Sorrento on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and attended school alongside him.

“He’s a special player Tommy. I’ve had the privilege to watch him right from juniors and there’s no surprise he’s turned into the player he is and the person he is as well,” Hallahan told BLK RAW.

“He’s such a humble guy. You feel good for blokes that turn out to be stars and their feet are firmly grounded.

“To have those two guys at either end of the ground. Lynchy kicking goals and Maysie saving goals.

“They’re the bookends of the club and they’re both strong leaders and great people too.”
