It’s been a frustrating two years for 2014 SUNS Club Champion David Swallow, with persistent knee issues restricting the West Australian to just six games in that period, including zero last season.

Whilst the club’s high performance team is still managing Swallow carefully, pleasingly he has completed the majority of the summer on the training track.

“I’ve completed probably 80-90 per cent of the pre-season,” Swallow told SUNS TV.

“Obviously still getting managed through each session and not doing the entire load at the moment but I’ve done all the footy sessions which was the aim going into this pre-season and doing all the match sim and that sort of stuff.

“So far tracking really well and just enjoying each session as it comes.”

Swallow hasn’t sat down with Elite Performance Director Justin Cordy or Senior Coach Rodney Eade in terms of what his program looks like heading into the JLT Community Series, but is hopeful of being available for round one and for the duration of the 2017 premiership season.

“I’ll just have to sit down with Justin and Rocket and put a plan in place,” he said.

“Decide what games I play, hopefully give myself the best chance of being fit for round one. Whether that’s (JLT game) one, two or three, we’ll just wait and see.

“I’ve only played six games in the last two years so if I could have a full season of playing footy that would my biggest aim at this stage.”
