If there is a silver lining from Saturday night’s disappointing round one loss to Brisbane, it’s that the SUNS left Metricon Stadium without any injuries.
Midfielder David Swallow was a late withdrawal from Rodney Eade’s side after rolling an ankle at training, but remains a strong chance to play his first AFL game in 630 days this weekend against the Giants in Sydney.
“He did as much as he could last week to be available and just missed so based on that, and based on the way he started this week with the early preparations, he should be okay,” GM – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, told the Optomo Injury Report.
“Just needs to complete training on Thursday and he should be an automatic in.”
In other pleasing news, swingman Sam Day has been seen around SUNS headquarters of late with a smile on his face, spending time with his teammates.
Although he won’t play again in 2017 after dislocating his hip in the first game of the JLT Series, the South Australian will start his long road to recovery in the coming weeks.
“It’s good to see Sammy around the club. His injury seems like such a long time ago now so he must be doing it pretty tough, but for him to get around the club and see his teammates, he’s a lot more positive with where he’s at,” Ashcroft said.
“He sees the surgeon later this week to get the tick off to start doing some exercise and some weight-bearing exercises so he’s feeling good about that and once you start doing your rehab and getting in the process of getting back to play, he should move forward pretty quick.”
