The Gold Coast SUNS have today expressed their support for marriage equality.

Since the club’s inception a core value and guiding principle of the organisation has been Community and fostering a sense of belonging through the sport of Australian Rules.

The club believes that as an elite sporting brand we have a responsibility to be a catalyst for positive social change within our community and will continue to embrace cultural identity and gender equality to build a more accepting society.

Gold Coast Chief Executive, Mark Evans, said he was delighted the club were in a position to show their support for the marriage equality movement.

“As a club we have always welcomed all cultures and backgrounds with open arms, and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community is absolutely no different,” he told goldcoastfc.com.au.

“We are proud to join a growing list of organisations who have shown support for the equal rights campaign.”

As part of their support, the SUNS will stand alongside other sporting organisations as a signatory for Australian Marriage Equality and encourage Australians to vote Yes to equal marriage rights in the plebiscite.
