In his first full-scale game as a SUN, Nick Holman was named among the team’s best as he impressed with his tenacity and work rate during the 56-point win over Geelong on Sunday.

Along with the likes of Sean Lemmens and Darcy Macpherson, the rookie went about his game and persistently harassed and chased the Cats’ defenders throughout the game.

The pressure from the SUNS was evident all over the ground but was particularly relentless in the forward half, which has been a key focus for the players during the pre-season.

“It was exciting, good to get a win and the boys’ pressure is what we’ve practiced and trained all pre-season,” Holman told SUNS TV after Sunday’s game in Townsville.

“Our forwards and mids had a big focus on pressure to make it easy for our backs. Yeah, we executed really well.”

After finishing with a match-high eight tackles, the former Blue is intent on making the most of his second chance at AFL level.

He was a key reason that the SUNS finished with fourteen more tackles than the Cats.

With another game under his belt, Holman is feeling more at home in SUNS’ colours as the playing group continues its development under senior coach Stuart Dew.

The boys have been super, I’ve felt really welcome into the new club.

“Yeah, it feels like home and it’s good to get a win.”

The focus will now switch firstly to recovery, and then to Sunday’s game against the Brisbane Lions at Fankhauser Reserve, Southport Sharks.

Just get my recovery right and then talk to the coaches and see where I went wrong and where there’s room for improvement and then work from there.”
