Sam Day will line up for his first Toyota AFL Premiership match since 2016 after completing his recovery from a dislocated hip.

Saturday's game against North Melbourne marks the end of the tall forward's lengthy rehabilitation process, where he worked closely with the SUNS' medical team to regain full fitness.

Day has not only proven that he has overcome the injury, but also shown enough form across the AFLX Tournament and both JLT Series games to work his way into the round one team.

He will be joined in the team by three players who will run out in a SUNS guernsey for the first time, with Lachie Weller, Aaron Young and Nick Holman all named.

The trio managed to impress Gold Coast’s match selection committee with their form during the JLT Series.

Young and Holman are expected to bring plenty of forward pressure, while Weller has been named on the wing.

Also named in the team are Cairns locals Jarrod Harbrow and Jack Bowes, who will be keen to record a victory at Cazalys Stadium.
