Former Gold Coast SUNS midfielder Josh Caddy could come up against his former teammates for the first time in Saturday’s clash at Metricon Stadium.

Caddy moved to Geelong for the 2013 season, but didn’t play in the Cats’ 52-point win at Simonds Stadium last season.

His chances of coming up against his old side looked slim when he broke his foot in a training drill in April, but he made a successful return in the VFL last week against Coburg, where he finished with 22 touches and six clearances.

The 21-year-old was a class above his opposition but wasn’t getting too excited about his comeback.

“I didn’t set the world on fire today, but it was just good to get the run back in the legs again,” Caddy said.

“That was a good starting point, but I’ve just got to keep pressing on and get back in the ones.

“I’m ready to go, but that’s out of my control.”

Caddy is in the mix for the Cats, along with ruckman Hamish McIntosh and youngster Jed Bews who were both rested last week.

Veterans Steve Johnson (back) and Jared Rivers (knee) were late withdrawals from the win over St Kilda, while the silky-skilled Allan Christensen has had two games back in the VFL.

Coach Chris Scott admitted it’s a nice position to be in with so many players putting their hands up for selection.

“(We are) still a fair way from deciding exactly which way we will go,” Scott said.

“It’s going to be a difficult one. But I think something we have struggled with throughout the year is having a full list available.

“We are not quite there yet, but we are getting closer.”

Harry Taylor (knee) and young midfielder George Horlin-Smith (back) are both in doubt for the trip north.
