Gold Coast SUNS coaching advisor Malcolm Blight is set to be immortalised with a bronze statue outside the redeveloped Adelaide Oval.

The two-time premiership coach, who led the Adelaide Crows to consecutive flags in 1997 and 1998, is among four South Australian football greats to be honoured in sculpture at Adelaide’s new home of AFL Football.

Blight joins Ken Farmer, Barrie Robran and Russell Ebert as the four chosen champions, with the first statue to be unveiled at the opening of the oval’s Southern Plaza this Friday.

Considered one of the all-time champions of the game, Blight has enjoyed tremendous success as both player and coach.  At North Melbourne, he played in two VFL premiership and won the 1978 Brownlow Medal.  After hanging up the boots, Blight coached Geelong to three AFL Grand Final appearances before taking the Crows to back-to-back premiership glory in 1997-98.

Originally joining the Gold Coast SUNS as a board member in 2009, Blight stepped aside in 2012 to take up a part-advisory role to senior coach Guy McKenna.
