An attacking defender that lights up in open space, Sean Lemmens says he has plenty to offer the Gold Coast SUNS.

“I see myself as a rebounding defender, that really likes to take the game on,” Lemmens told goldcoastfc.com.au.

“And I don’t mind putting my head over the football when I have too.”

Taken with the GC SUNS third and final selection at pick 27, the 184cm South Australian recalled the moment his AFL dream became a reality, sitting in his Port Adelaide home alongside family and friends.

“I was watching the AFL Draft from home, and it actually all happened I didn’t even hear it,” he said.

“My mum was the first to see it, and she was very happy.”

Lemmens says it wasn’t long before his friends came stampeding through the front door.

“They all came rushing in the door 20 minutes after I found out, so it all was pretty unreal.”

An avid AFL supporter, the exciting 19-year-old says he’s looking forward to meeting the entire Gold Coast team, none more than dual Brownlow medallist and star captain Gary Ablett.

“It’s certainly exciting. To train and player alongside someone like that, will just be an unreal experience.”

“I really want to have a massive pre-season, and hopefully if I can do that, I’ll give myself a steady opportunity to play senior football next year.”
