The 2015 pre-season has seen a significant shift in training focus with the GC SUNS players spending less time running laps of the Metricon Stadium training field and more time working on their football skills.

The playing list has been buzzing since training resumed last week with new forwards coach, Ashley Prescott, speaking to SUNS TV about the new regime.

“Certainly that’s been an emphasis in the program is to try and get the footy’s out,” Prescott said.

The former Tiger and Docker believes the change won’t impact the team’s fitness heading into the 2015 AFL Premiership season, with the playing list expressing their excitement of the months ahead.

“(We’ll) get our fitness and conditioning through football-specific drills, which I think the players are really enjoying.

“I’ve had a few come up to me. David Swallow just recently said this time last year we didn’t have the volume of the ball in his hands and you know, these players love holding the footy’s and using their skills.”
