Jarrod Garlett’s phenomenal grab in a reserves game in early August has been rewarded with the NEAFL Mark of the Year prize at the competition’s awards night on Sunday night.

The highly-rated teenager was in his second game back from an ankle reconstruction when he sat on a Brisbane opponent’s head and hauled in a spectacular mark, leaving people at the ground in disbelief.

Last year’s pick No. 15 nearly leapt over his sorry opponent, before hovering on his head for what seemed like an eternity. In a split second, any lingering doubt surrounding the state of his ankle was immediately dismissed.

The West Australian has since returned to the senior line up in the last three weeks and has made a total of eight senior appearances in his debut season.

His outstanding grab is not the only piece of wizardry he has produced this year, with Garlett also earning an AFL Goal of the Year nomination for a piece of individual brilliance against Geelong in round three that included four running bounces at Simonds Stadium.
