2005 Sydney Swans premiership captain Barry Hall will join the Gold Coast SUNS as a specialist coach.

Regarded as one of the best forwards of the modern era, Hall will mentor and coach the club’s key position players in a part-time capacity.

The former Swan great will look to impart valuable experience to the likes of All Australian spearhead Tom Lynch, Steven May, Peter Wright, Rory Thompson and Sam Day.

Hall kicked 746 goals in his 289-game career; his honours included three All Australian selections and the Bob Skilton Medal as Sydney’s best & fairest in 2004.

He was also the leading goal kicker for his club 11 times in his 16 years in the AFL.

Hall’s appointment will also see him reunite with former coach Rodney Eade, who he played under in his final two seasons in the AFL at the Western Bulldogs (2010-11).

The Fox Footy commentator said he was looking forward to working with the club’s key position players.

“I’m looking forward to working with what I regard as one of the most exciting spines in the AFL,” Hall said.

“Through my broadcasting commitments with Fox Footy I have covered many of the team’s games and what stands out is the depth and quality of the key position players at the SUNS," Hall said.

"Throughout the year I often spoke with Rocket about the guys and I'm looking forward to getting involved and helping them throughout the year."

Senior coach Rodney Eade welcomed Hall’s appointment.

“We are thrilled Barry Hall has agreed to join the club as a specialist coach,” Eade said.

“As a former premiership captain, Barry brings a wealth of experience to the role and we believe our key position players will learn plenty under Barry's guidance."
