Gold Coast midfielder Gary Ablett is a solid chance to play his 300th AFL game this Saturday afternoon against North Melbourne at Metricon Stadium.

Ablett was ruled out against St Kilda with a calf niggle but GM- Football Operations Marcus Ashcroft said the Little Master showed positive signs at training on Tuesday.

“As long as Gary continues to progress in the same manner over the coming days, we believe he will play on Saturday against North,” Ashcroft said.

“He still needs to get through a final fitness test at our training session on Thursday, but we’re really positive it will be good news.”

The prognosis also looks positive for recruit Pearce Hanley, who came off late in the fourth quarter against the Saints with a suspected hamstring injury.

“Pearce came off with a twinge in his hamstring and originally we thought that may have ruled him out,” Ashcroft said.

“However, we’re really pleased with his recovery so far, so he will be a test on Thursday and could possibly play.”

Aaron Hall (hamstring), Brandon Matera (foot) and Kade Kolodjashnij (concussion) aren’t expected to feature in Gold Coast’s round 15 team as they nurse their respective injuries.
