JLT Community Series Fixture Announced

Rhiannon Sargent   October 26, 2017 8:30 AM

The Gold Coast SUNS will kick-off their pre-season campaign with two games in Queensland as part of the JLT Community Series.

The SUNS will head to North Queensland to battle the Geelong Cats at Riverway Stadium in Townsville on March 4.

On Monday, the SUNS announced a strategic partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland and the match between Gold Coast and Geelong forms part of that agreement.

Chief Executive Mark Evans said the club were looking forward to taking the game to North Queensland twice in 2018.

“We’re thrilled to be able to take one of our pre-season matches to Townsville,” he said.

“North Queensland as a whole is a really important catchment region for our club, and to be able to bring AFL to Riverway Stadium in 2018 is significant.”

Commencing on Saturday February 24, the JLT Community Series will run over three weeks with each of the 18 teams playing only two matches.

Southport Sharks (Fankhauser Reserve), Patron Partner of the club, will host the second of the SUNS’ matches against traditional Queensland rivals the Brisbane Lions at 3.30pm on Sunday March 11.

“It’s great we’ll have footy on the Gold Coast as part of the JLT Community Series,” Evans said.

“With Metricon Stadium out of action for the first half of the season to the construction of the Commonwealth Games athletics track, we are really pleased to secure some AFL content for the Coast during the JLT series and its great to be able to do this with our Patron Partner Southport Sharks.”

All 18 matches of the JLT Community Series will be exclusively broadcast on by Fox Footy and, in addition, every match will also be made available live to fans via the AFL Live App.
