The Gold Coast SUNS have made two significant appointments to head its football department following a restructure led by Chief Executive Mark Evans.

Jon Haines will join the club as General Manager – Football Operations, while Craig Cameron has been appointed General Manager – List & Strategy.

Haines joins the club from the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) where he held the role of Executive Manager Football Operations. The wide-ranging role oversaw the WAFL, Talent and Community Football in Western Australia.

Prior to this role with the WAFC, Haines, spent four years at the North Melbourne Football Club from 2009 to 2014, where he filled the role of General Manager – Development and Strategy  before being appointed General Manager – Football Operations for two years.

Craig Cameron has held a number of senior football roles over the last 20-years. He joins the club from the GWS Giants where he held the role of List Manger.

Prior to this his AFL experience includes a period as General Manager of Football with the Richmond as well as recruiting and list management roles with Melbourne and Fremantle.

GC SUNS Chief Executive, Mark Evans, welcomed Haines and Cameron to the club.

“It gives me great pleasure to confirm the appointments of Jon Haines and Craig Cameron to the Gold Coast Football Club,” Evans said.

“Jon and Craig both bring experience and knowledge to the club, they will both sit on our Executive team and will drive our football strategy across the club.

“Jon’s extensive club and industry experience results in him being extremely well suited to the General Manager of Football Operations role.  He will be responsible for all of the day to day operations of the football program, and leading the coaching and high performance, player welfare and development, players and football administration areas.

“Craig has a history in recruiting and list management. He will oversee this area as well as our fast growing Talent Academy Programs where our aim is to be the best club in the country at integrating our Male and Female Academies and pathways, all the way up to our elite AFL teams.”

Haines will commence his role with the club in the coming weeks, while Cameron will take up his position in mid-December, following the NAB AFL National, Pre-Season and Rookie Drafts. Scott Clayton will continue to lead the club through these drafts.
