Despite the NEAFL side’s loss to the Brisbane Lions on Sunday afternoon, two Gold Coast players were recognised by the coaches and umpires in the NEAFL MVP Award.

Draftee Charlie Ballard received two votes for a performance where he had 15 touches and took five marks.

The 18-year-old made an impact in the second half when he was moved into the midfield.

The other SUN to register a vote was Aaron Hall (one), who responded well to his omission from the senior team.

Hall was the leading disposal winner for Gold Coast with 24. The midfielder also laid a game-high 11 tackles.

Brisbane’s Sam Mayes was adjudged to be the best on ground, receiving nine votes after gathering 35 disposals, 11 marks and six rebound 50s.

The NEAFL MVP Award is presented to the player uniquely judged the best in the competition by a combination of umpire and coachs votes.

The votes are submitted post-game cast on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis. As such, the maximum amount of votes a single player can earn per match is 10 – courtesy of the maximum five votes from both umpires and coaches.
