The acquisitions of former Richmond players Corey Ellis and Anthony Miles will provide a much-needed boost to the SUNS in more than one way, according to Craig Cameron.

Gold Coast’s GM – List & Strategy says the duo have insights from being a part of a premiership list which can only be beneficial to their new club.

“They both come out of a really good system so it’s important to bring that into our organisation and hopefully they can show the way a little bit in terms of their training standards,” Cameron told SUNS TV.

“I think initially they saw there was a really good chance for them to play more regularly and then as we talked to them about the vision we have for the footy club, they were excited about what could happen here and being a part of something that’s growing and was new.”

Cameron and his recruiting team had registered interest in the pair early in the year, and slowly started to ramp up conversations with their respective managers as the year wore on.

“Given that they’re with other AFL clubs we were a little bit reluctant to talk to guys during the year but obviously we had conversations with their managers,” Cameron said.

“After our season finished and Richmond was comfortable for us to talk to those two players we started conversations and from day one they were excited to come up.

“They saw it as a great opportunity for them and also they thought they could really contribute to us.”

An ideal situation in Cameron’s eyes would see both players grasp their new opportunity and play to their highest potential in a new environment.

“I’d like to see them play as many games as they can, if that’s 18 or 22 or whatever that might be and really contribute to our output,” he said.

“Off the field I’ve got no doubt that their character will really add to our group and they’ll be at the forefront of driving the standards we want.”
