Gold Coast defender Pearce Hanley will fly back to the Gold Coast today, to get scans on his shoulder after dislocating it for the second time this season.

Hanley injured his shoulder while attempting to win possession of the football during the second quarter of Saturday’s match against Fremantle at Optus Stadium.

He left the field just before half-time and did not return.

General Manager - Football Operations Jon Haines said it was too early to confirm a return date for Hanley.

"Pearce will get a scan when he returns to the Gold Coast. We’ll assess the results and work with Pearce to agree on the most appropriate course of action," Haines said.

“It’s unfortunate for Pearce, he was really excited to be back playing and confident that his rehabilitation program had put him a strong position."
