Gold Coast has made superstar SUN Gary Ablett's 300th game a memorable one, defeating North Melbourne by 19 points at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.

The fast-finishing Kangaroos nearly made it a nervous finish, but the SUNS were able to hold on in the 18.10 (118) to 14.15 (99) result.

SUNS captain Tom Lynch was the star of the show, bagging five goals in a welcome return to form.

Ablett was again dominant in the midfield in the important win, finishing with 37 touches. The champion midfielder had a chance to boot a major in the final term after an unselfish pass from Lynch, but Ablett's effort hit the post.

The victory lifts the SUNS into 12th on the ladder, while the Kangaroos remain in 16th.
