Gary Ablett will resume running in two weeks and be right to roll from day one of Gold Coast's pre-season in early November.

Ablett's season was ended abruptly following a medial ligament knee injury against Adelaide in round 17.

Speaking at Gold Coast's best and fairest awards on Friday night, the Suns captain said his recovery was right on track.

"It's good. I'll start running in two weeks," Ablett said.

"I'll be doing plenty in the off-season and be I'll be ready to go day one of pre-season. I'm looking forward to that."

Ablett, 31, played just six games this season after suffering complications to shoulder surgery that kept him out for 12 weeks.

After the long absence he returned in round 14 against North Melbourne and immediately had 31 disposals and three goals to steer the Suns to an upset 55-point triumph.

Despite a tumultuous season on and off the field, Ablett said he was confident his side could make finals in 2016.

"I've got no doubt we're heading in the right direction," he said.

"For us it's continuing to improve. Rocket's implemented a lot of good drills. For the playing group it's about doing the basics well.

"We're excited about having another big pre-season, getting fitter, working on the areas that we need to work on.

"I've got no doubt we'll be playing finals footy next year."
