The Gold Coast SUNS have this morning swapped three draft selections with the Melbourne Football Club in a deal that will see the GC SUNS secure Melbourne’s Round 1 selection in the 2016 draft.

The GC SUNS have secured selections 6 & 29 in this year’s draft, as well as Melbourne’s Round 1 selection in the 2016 draft.

In return, Melbourne have received selections 3, 10 & 43 in this year’s draft.

As a result of the trade, the GC SUNS currently hold selections 6, 16, 29, 35 in the 2015 Draft, as well as holding three future draft selections, Melbourne’s Round 1 selection and Port Adelaide’s and Richmond’s Round 2 selections in the 2016 draft.

General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft said the deal meant the GC SUNS could spread their draft selection over two draft pools.

“The introduction of future picks trading has come at the perfect time for our football club.

“In a year where we were set to hold a large number of early draft picks, this initiative has meant we have been able to spread the picks over two drafts, allowing us to utilise two first round selections at the 2015 and 2016 drafts.

“Despite spreading our selection over two draft pools, we still maintain a strong hand at this year’s draft, holding two first & second round selections in 2015,” Ashcroft said.
