Players and staff of the GCFC got a taste of the action this weekend as part of Surfing Queensland’s – Surf For Life event that was held at Snapper Rocks as part of the Quicksilver Pro event.

While 44 of the worlds best surfers fought it out in waves up to 5 ft only a few 100m away – GCFC players and staff took part with celebrities, sports stars and junior surf stars all for a good cause.

The club was represented by players Matt Shaw, David Swallow, Business Development Manager Sam Eustice and Community Programs Officer Corey Bell.

Each of the teams were made up of 3 surfers and heats were for 25 minutes which flowed into semi’s and then a final.

Community Programs Officer Corey Bell was fortunate to get through to the semi finals – but his team was pipped at the post by Paul Burt’s team by 1 point to advance to the final, where they eventually were crowned champions beating Ky Hurst’s team to take out the inaugural event.

Some of the celebrities included Channel 9’s Paul Burt, Channel 7’s Liz Cantor, Ky Hurst and Fox Sports Gary Belcher.

The day was about fun and raising funds for the Starlight Foundation and GCFC were proud to participate in this Inaugural Community event.
