The Gold Coast SUNS midfield brigade, led by Dion Prestia and Gary Ablett, turned up the heat in the last quarter at Patersons Stadium to spark an amazing comeback before the team ultimately fell short by just three points last Saturday.

Prestia was outstanding all afternoon, collecting 38 disposals, five marks, seven clearances, five tackles, six inside 50s and a crucial final quarter goal that brought the SUNS within two goals.

After a slow start, Ablett finished with 33 possessions, 11 clearances, eight tackles and five inside 50s. The skipper also nearly stole the game for the Gold Coast in the dying stages but his unlikely check-side kick hit the post.

West Australians Jaeger O’Meara (22 disposals and one goal), David Swallow (21 disposals, eight tackles and six inside 50s) and Harley Bennell (20 disposals, five inside 50s and one goal) all stood up for the SUNS late in the game.

Tall timber Charlie Dixon and Tom Lynch both kicked three goals in the losing effort.
