The Gold Coast SUNS’ ability to snare future draft currency on the final day of the AFL’s exchange period will further boast the Club’s chances of recruiting quality young talent, says List & Strategy Manager Scott Clayton.

Official paperwork was lodged at AFL House this morning, with the Gold Coast sending it’s third round pick No. 43 to West Coast for a third round future compensation pick.

The 2pm deadline has now passed, meaning the club will enter the 2013 AFL Draft in a strong position with  picks No. 5, No. 20 and No. 27 as Jack Martin formally join the senior list.

West Coast’s compensation pick exchanged to the GC SUNS was originally acquired by trading pick No. 45 to Collingwood, after the Magpies received compensation for Josh Fraser’s defection to the Gold Coast.

The positioning of the compensation pick will be largely determined by Collingwood’s position on the ladder next season.

Regardless, the move allows the Gold Coast to further stockpile on compensation picks, with the Club already boasting two separate first round compensation picks yet to be activated.

GC SUNS List Strategy Manager – Scott Clayton, said the Club was delighted to acquire another valuable compensation pick.

“We are pleased to have secured another compensation pick, which we can add to future drafting disposal,” Clayton said.

“Our playing list is all but finalised now, and we are looking forward to heading in to the Gold Coast Convention Centre for the draft in November 21 for the 2013 AFL National Draft.”

With a total of fourteen Gold Coasters re-committing to the Club in 2013, Clayton said the strategic policy of retaining and investing it’s young talented core had given the Club stability and direction.

“Our focus has always been to invest in our playing list, and by doing so have been successful in retaining all our key players.”
