Young guns Jesse Lonergan and Clay Cameron enjoyed an exhilarating welcome to the Gold Coast on Tuesday night, tackling the notorious Dreamworld adventure park.

The Gold Coast SUNS duo were joined by their fellow first-year players and senior coach Guy McKenna, all tackling some of the amusement parks most famous thrill rides – The Claw and the Shockwave, before getting a feel of the city’s surf lifestyle on the challenging Flow Rider.

New GC SUNS recruit Timmy Sumner admitted to falling victim to the relentless Claw after mistakenly trying the ride a second time.
But immediately felt his spirits lift after cooling down on the surf-simulated Flow Rider, giving the visit to Dreamworld a big thumbs-up.

The masterminds behind the induction were GC SUNS player welfare team, Simon Fletcher and Sam Coen, the pair wanted to take the boys away from the professional football environment and letting them unwind in a more casual atmosphere.

Coen, who joined last year’s first year player on the SkyPoint Climb atop of the Q1 super tower, said the event helped break down any barriers between player and coach.

“It’s certainly an opportunity for the boys break down any walls they might feel between them and Bluey, when there in the cut and thrust footy environment.”

“We got such positive feedback last year and tonight was no different, the players really enjoyed themselves and made the most of the occasion.”

GC SUNS local zone rookie Andrew Boston told goldcoastfc.com.au it was a great opportunity for the boys to share a few laughs with Bluey (McKenna) away from the confines of the training track.

“It’s great to be able to bond with Bluey outside the club culture, and it’s even better to see him having a crack at all the rides along with the rest of the boys.”

Following their thrill-seeking session the boys enjoyed a buffet dinner, where they talked through the club expectations of them as well as giving them an opportunity to discuss how they have settled into life as a Gold Coast SUNS player.

Joining the dinner was GC SUNS second year player Jackson Allen, who provided the young guns an insight his first-year experience at the club, and what they can expect during their time at Metricon Stadium.
