Gold Coast has made one change ahead of Sunday’s match against the Adelaide Crows at Adelaide Oval.

Clay Cameron comes into the senior team replacing Harley Bennell, who was yesterday ruled out of the round 11 fixture after sustaining a calf injury in the GC SUNS’ 45-point win over the Western Bulldogs last weekend.

20-year-old Cameron will play a key defensive post in his senior return against the Crows; he has been named at centre half-back as fellow Queenslander Rory Thompson aims to fully recover from a wrist complaint.

It will be young defender’s fifth AFL appearance since making his debut against Richmond in the club’s season opener, before going down with a shoulder injury following the side’s round 4 loss to Hawthorn.

In what promises to be an exciting match of football between two of the AFL’s most combative teams, General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, told goldcoastfc.com.au Adelaide’s hostile supporter group and record crowd attendances would provide valuable finals-like experience for the ambitious SUNS.

“There has been a lot made about Adelaide Oval and how vocal the crowd are during games, so our players are looking forward to the experience of playing against a parochial Adelaide crowd,” Ashcroft said.

“We know that it is going to be an experience that prepares our side for bigger things to come, because in finals series you need to be prepared to play in an environment where the majority of the crowd is against you, and Adelaide is no better place to get that experience.”

Jack Hutchins, Jeremy Taylor and Tom Murphy have been named as emergencies for the game.
