Youth homeless face fears every day of their lives, but recently they had the chance to face fears of a different kind on the thrill rides on offer at Movie World thanks to the GC SUNS Horizons program.

50 young people affected by homelessness from across the Gold Coast got the chance to attend the fourth annual Face Your Fears day, thanks to the support of Village Roadshow Theme Parks, who generously gave free entry to the group. They were nominated to attend by the three charities the club works with in this space: Gold Coast Youth Service; Gold Coast Project for Homeless Youth; and YHES House.

As well as enjoying the rides on offer at the theme park, the visitors were also supplied with plenty of Crust Gourmet Pizza to keep them well fed at lunch.

GC SUNS player ambassadors Tom Lynch and Jack Hutchins also ventured to Movie World that afternoon to face their fears on the Green Lantern ride.

Lynch said the day provided the attendees with an experience they won’t forget in a hurry.

“As the Gold Coast SUNS ambassador for youth homelessness, it is great to get along to a day like Face Your Fears and engage with the young people,” he said.

“The statistics of youth homelessness on the Gold Coast are quite alarming and days like this allow us to raise awareness while allowing the participants an opportunity to have fun at Movie World on all of the rides, an experience most will never get.”

Hutchins echoed those thoughts: “It is fantastic that as a football club, we support our charities and seek partnerships with organisations such as Movie World and Crust Gourmet Pizza to pull days like this together. The smiles on the participants’ faces shows the worth of these programs. It is great for me as an ambassador to get out and support our three youth homeless charities and continue to raise awareness of this social responsibility we face on the Gold Coast.”
