The Gold Coast SUNS have claimed their first win in Victoria with a crushing ten goal win over the Melbourne Football Club at the MCG.

The Gold Coasters who travelled South without the inform Charlie Dixon and wrecking ball Karmichael Hunt led from the opening siren.

Ahead by five goals at the first break, the visitors kicked further clear during the second stanza to lead by 36 points at half time.

There were a host of stand outs for the Gold Coast, however it was Gary Ablett with 38 disposals who best directed traffic on an oval he has enjoyed so many memorable moments, the skipper pleased to see his team mates celebrate at the home of AFL for the first time.

"It is a great feeling, I'm really pleased for the boys and we knew we had a great opportunity to get a strong result coming down here and I thought we trained very well during the week and it was just pleasing to see it all come together today."

"To get our first win in Victoria, here at the MCG is terrific and I hope the boys really take time to enjoy the moment tonight before we fly back to the Gold Coast to begin preparations for our next match against the Western Bulldogs next Saturday," said Ablett.

Down on personnel Ablett said he was most impressed with the way the team rallied after first losing Jared Brennan to a sickening head clash which is sure to be scrutinised by the match review committee and then defender Tom Murphy who was knocked unconscious competing for a loose ball.

"Undermanned in the second half  and obviously there was less rotations and I thought is was just outstanding that the boys fought on and didn't stop trying right through to the final siren."

Coach Guy McKenna whilst pleased with the result and the effort said the Gold Coasters would need to show further improvement if they are to trouble the Bulldogs next week.

I thought for the boys this is where you have to play your footy when you win the flag and it was just a great opportunity for us to shake the monkey off our back if you like and get our first premiership points down here in Melbourne."

Like the Skipper, McKenna was pleased with the way the rallied following the loss of Brennan and Murphy.

"I was really impressed with their resilience, especially when we lost a few personnel, they didn't stop trying at any stage."

When pushed on the development of the Gold Coasters, "We haven't turned the corner yet, I think the boys can now see the corner and I would like to think that the indicator is on."
