The Gold Coast SUNS forward line was near its best against the Brisbane Lions on Saturday, overpowering the Lions defence as the team recorded a 26-point victory over their Queensland rivals.

Tall timber Peter Wright and Tom Lynch each kicked five goals, while smalls Brandon Matera (three goals), Ryan Davis (two) and Callum Ah Chee (two) all hit the scoreboard.

The chemistry between the forward group is evident and has certainly grown over recent weeks according to mature-aged rookie Davis.

“Played in a few decent games, starting to see the results. The boys just starting to know how each other’s playing and it’s really paying dividends out there,” Davis told BLK RAW after the win.

“It’s nice when the other guys are hitting it (the scoreboard) as well, I mean everyone chips in for a couple and it makes us pretty hard to defend as a group.”

The former Eagle was full of praise for the dominant duo of Lynch and Wright, who plucked 19 marks between them to go with their 10 goals on the night.

“Mate, it’s that good. They just rip it up there, got so much confidence to kick it to them,” he said.

“They’re just clunking everything, you get front and square every time but they take it most of the time.”

Davis kicked two first-half goals and should have had three, missing a gettable set shot directly in front of goal.

The former Eagle has now kicked 10 goals in 12 games and is happy to be playing an important role for the team.

“It’s nice to hit the scoreboard. You just play your role as best you can and get on the end of a couple, it’s pretty lucky,” Davis said.
