Gary Ablett has moved into the top five of the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award after twelve rounds.

The former skipper was voted best on ground by the coaches, as he recorded a perfect ten for the second time this season.

Ablett has enjoyed a rich run of form against Hawthorn, averaging 38 disposals in his last 11 games against them.

This run continued at the MCG on Saturday afternoon as he racked up 37 disposals, 10 tackles, eight clearances to have a massive say on proceedings.

Captain Steven May was awarded five votes after an impressive display where he was continually able to drop off his man and mop up in the backline.

The key defender took 13 marks and had five rebound 50s to go along with his 24 touches.

Recruit Jarryd Lyons (3 votes) had 28 disposals and seven tackles as he enjoyed another excellent display as part of a strong SUNS midfield unit.

Ruckman Jarrod Witts and captain Tom Lynch both received one vote apiece.
