There’s mixed news on the injury front for the Gold Coast SUNS this week, with three players set to return to action but a handful of others ruled out for multiple weeks.

Rebounding defender Kade Kolodjashnij has overcome a concussion suffered against Richmond in round 12 and will slot straight back into Rodney Eade’s back six against St Kilda on Saturday afternoon.

“Good for Kade, a nasty concussion against Richmond two weeks ago before the bye,” GM – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft told the Optomo Injury Report.

“Has basically missed two or three weeks so he comes back into the side which is a great relief for our backmen.”

The versatile Jack Martin should also be passed fit to play after being a late withdrawal against the Hawks.

“A conservative route for Jack. We know he’s a vital part of our team, he can play forward and play back. Didn’t want to risk him down in Tasmania in the cold weather so he comes back into the team this week as well,” Ashcroft said.

Last year’s No. 8 draft pick Callum Ah Chee is also now fit and ready to go after overcoming a calf injury but the news isn’t as rosy for Trent McKenzie, who was due to play his 100th game for the club this week.

“Unfortunately for Trent he strained his quad in Sunday’s game against Hawthorn, not too bad but looks to be a three-to-four week time out,” Ashcroft said.

Ruckman Dan Currie will also be sidelined for an extended period after breaking his finger in the NEAFL win over Canberra.

“He’s had a bad run of injuries, Dan. He’s now broken his second finger, had surgery yesterday and will miss the next 5-6 weeks,” Ashcroft said.

Adam Saad’s hamstring issues continue with the dynamic defender aggravating the injury suffered against GWS in round eight.

“Unfortunately with Saady he strained his hamstring five or six weeks ago. He’s been training really well for two weeks, went to train at the end of last week with the hope of playing but still aggravated that hamstring,” Ashcroft said.

“So we need to pull him right back and make sure there’s no risk with him for the rest of the year so he’ll miss the next three to four.”
