One of Gold Coast and Port Adelaide could break a trend this Saturday when they clash in Locals Round at Metricon Stadium.

Neither the GC SUNS, nor Power, have performed well in wet conditions this season, which may be a problem come the weekend with some showers predicted on the holiday strip.

The SUNS have lost to Fremantle, Hawthorn and the Brisbane Lions in the wet in 2014, while Power has gone down to Adelaide, Essendon and the Sydney Swans, with all of those damp affairs played at Adelaide Oval.

While Port is locked in for the finals, the SUNS can still qualify if they start stringing some wins together.

Power has lost six of its last eight and with both sides putting in below-par performances of late, Port skipper Travis Boak admits now is the time the teams have to start firing heading in to the business end of the season.

“If you’re going to make a bit of a move in September, you’ve got to finish in the top four and for us it’s just about winning our next three games,” Boak said.

“It starts with Gold Coast this weekend...we know it’s going to be a really big challenge for us. Hopefully it can kick-start a bit of form.”

Former SUNS assistant, now Port senior coach, Ken Hinkley, handed Boak the club captaincy in 2013 and this weekend the leader plays his 150th game.

“It’s a great honour to play for this great club and to captain the club and play 150 games (is something) I’ll probably look back at the end of my career and be pretty thankful for,” Boak said.
