Gold Coast product Kurt Tippett described his team’s 110-point demolition of Geelong as “a lot of fun” and predicted the league’s hottest team can still get better heading in to Sunday’s clash with the GC SUNS.

Both Sydney and Gold Coast were on five-game winning streaks heading in to round 11 but only the Swans’ run continued after they produced one of the most stunning performances in a home and away fixture for some time with their brutal assault on the Cats at the SCG.

A knee injury has restricted Tippett to just three matches this season, but his five-goal haul against Geelong added to bags of three in the win over Essendon and four against Hawthorn.

Lance Franklin booted four and Adam Goodes three in the thrashing of the Cats. Significantly, since Tippett returned in round 8, he and Franklin have combined for 23 goals in three matches, the Swans have averaged 123 points per game with the Queenslander back in the line-up.

The Southport Sharks junior said he expected further improvement in his own game as he gets more matches under his belt after injuring his knee in the finals last season against Carlton.

“The body’s feeling good,” Tippett said.

“I’m grateful we were able to take a bit of time to get it right and fingers crossed we’re able to continue that way and build some consistency.

“I work hard at my game each year and look to have my best season every year.

“I work hard and try to get better each day, so that’s what I focus on.”

In an ominous warning for future opponents, including the SUNS, Tippett said the Swans can take their game to another level, despite the quality of football they produced against the Cats last Thursday night.

“That can become our benchmark and continue to drive us if we play to those standards.

“We’ve seen what playing hard, consistent footy has been able to do for us.

“I think we can improve in a number of areas. I’m sure Horse (coach John Longmire) will come in with a host of areas we can do better.”

Tippett has twice kick four goals in a game at Metricon Stadium against the SUNS as an Adelaide Crow, but understands the home side will be a different proposition to the inexperienced outfits he has faced previously.

“We’re looking forward to that challenge come Sunday.”
